Advantages Of Using Deburr Shot Blasting Machines

Shot blasting using deburr shot blasting machines consists of attacking the surface of a material with one of many types of shots. Shot blasting leaves the surface immediately ready for the application of coatings or overlays, eliminating drying time and costly disposal procedures associated with other surface preparation methods. Shot blasting produces the highest bonding character of any surface preparation method. Normally this is done to remove something on the surface such as scale, but it is also done sometimes to impart a particular surface to the object being shot blasted, such as the rolls used to make a 2D finish. The shot can be sand, small steel balls of various diameters, granules of silicon carbide, etc. The device that throws the shot is either a large air gun or spinning paddles which hurl the shot off their blades.

Shot blasting removes all contaminants such as rust, old paint etc and gives a good canvas and key to start the powder or painting process on and at the same time it normally reveals any problems such as corrosion weakness or broken weld joints. Good preparation is paramount to a good long lasting finish.

Behind shot blasting systems, use a high performance, airless, centrifugal wheel for propelling blast media at a high velocity, in a controlled pattern and direction. Ride-on systems use a paddle wheel configuration.  In both types, metal abrasive thrown by the rapidly rotating blast wheel is accelerated towards the surface being prepared. The media strikes the surface and rebounds, along with removed contaminants, into a recovery chamber or separator. The dust collector removes pulverized abrasive, dust, and contaminants. Very little abrasive is lost and the usable media is returned to the storage hopper for recirculation by the blast wheel.

There are many advantages of shot blasting.  As the method of surface preparation recommended by most coating manufacturers, steel shot blasting eliminates the use of harsh, non-eco friendly chemicals and leaves the concrete floor with the desired profile.   Shot blasting is known for high production rates, blast pattern accuracy, and wide abrasive selection. Also, shot blasting lends itself to efficient disposal of dust and other contaminants. Shot blasting can be performed indoors or outdoors. It can also be accomplished with ride-on, diesel-powered machines or walk-behind, electric powered machines.

Shot blasting media, including deburr shot blasting machines, is widely varied and specialized. One of the most popular types of shot for removing paint and rust from metal is aluminum oxide. This is an angular abrasive, which means it has sharp corners for digging deep. This is also one of the hardest abrasives, which makes it longer lasting than most.  At the other end of the spectrum is pumice, the softest available. It is very popular for removing paint from soft wood, without leaving marks or other damage. Between the two extremes, there are dozens of other abrasives that can perform hundreds of different tasks. If you are just starting out with shot blasting, it is best to consult a professional when selecting your blast media.
